Last week at the beach, I helped build a sturdy sand wall to help protect “the laboratory” my six-year-old was creating.
Meanwhile, he was shoveling so enthusiastically with his blue shovel that he fell over more than once.
Every now and then, he ran down from collecting sand farther up the beach to tell me, “You’re doing great at your job!”
At his encouragement, I was surprised I sincerely felt pride in my little sand barrier. A giant smile blossomed on my face, and I found myself packing the wet sand a little more thoughtfully.
For many of us, our paid work can be an isolating series of tasks, hours spent just us and our computer, with limited in-person contact.
It’s rare we get a burst of enthusiastic encouragement or elicit unbridled excitement by just doing our job. Each activity can feel like a slog, particularly when we’re navigating remote work.
If you’re craving some real time connection and encouragement, a week from today, I’m hosting a Get Shit Done Day for women in partnership with my beloved Salon22 community.
Get Shit Done Day
Tuesday, April 29
1-3pm
Salon22: 2407 Bienville St.
Salon22* is a powerful women’s club and intentional community of women. We’ll meet in their gorgeous co-working space, which I’m excited to show off.
Bring your tedious tasks, big challenging projects, or items you just can’t seem to get off your to do list.
At the event, we’ll first visit and share what we’ll be working on independently. I’ll offer strategic support and guidance. Then, we’ll have two work blocks to GSD (get shit done). We’ll take a break in the middle to stretch, visit, and reset. At the end, we’ll celebrate what we’ve accomplished.
Imagine how good you’ll feel when you get it done!
At the beach, a pair of teenage girls walked near our “laboratory” giggling at something my kiddo said, which I hadn’t heard over the waves.
I looked up to see my kid beaming at me and screaming, “You’re doing better than ever!”
Cheers to us all doing better than ever,
Lelia

I just signed up for a Get It Done Day (aka a Procrastination Prevention Party) with Lelia Gowland and Salon22. It's basically a grown-up study date with strategic support and accountability. Wanna come with? Sign up here.
Positive reinforcement is the best!!
